How CheckMyTap Makes Money

CheckMyTap is an independently operated website. We earn revenue through affiliate partnerships with water treatment product manufacturers and retailers. When you click a product link on our site and make a purchase, we may receive a commission. This commission comes from the retailer, not from you. You pay the same price whether you use our link or go directly to the retailer.

How This Affects Our Content

It does not affect our water quality data. All hardness, contaminant, and source data comes from public databases including the EPA Safe Drinking Water Information System, the Environmental Working Group Tap Water Database, USGS water hardness studies, and municipal Consumer Confidence Reports.

It does not affect which products we recommend. We recommend product categories based on water chemistry (hardness levels, specific contaminants detected). We do not recommend products based on which ones pay higher commissions.

It does affect which specific products appear on comparison pages. We only review products from manufacturers who participate in affiliate programs, because that is how we fund the site. We are transparent about this limitation.

Our Commitment

If your water data says you do not need a softener, we will tell you that. If a $300 system does the same job as an $800 system for your situation, we will tell you that too. Our long-term success depends on readers trusting our data and advice, and we take that seriously.
